Finale

I consider a signature maneuver of Mr. Parish is the use of black as an accent. He reinforces his bold colors with bold brushstrokes and on top of that a bold use of black. For my final touches I use India ink and a small watercolor brush and mimic the organic brushstroke that can be seen in Mr. Parish’s original.
When I saw this delightful piece a few weeks ago I loved the colors and the composition, but by recreating it in encaustic I fell head-over-heels in love. I can imagine the artist’s process of creating a work of art by travelling down the same path but in my own shoes. I have a new respect for the “simplicity” of Mr. Parish’s figures and am honored to share this process of re-creating one of his pieces in encaustic.
