Cool vs. Warm Reds

Without going down the rabbit hole of color theory I incorporate both a cool and warm red. Rose madder is a cool red and my pre-mixed red is warm. I use both to deepen the red areas in the painting. At this point I am really concentrating on the layers of the original piece. I know I need to use these reds at this point because they are layered behind more opaque colors. I am unconcerned that the brushstrokes are overly bold at this stage because I can think ahead to the next steps. Before I move on I drink a tall glass of water.
**Remember to drink a lot of water when working with encaustic as it is a very dehydrating medium**
